SheKicks has today launched a petition for there to be a UK bank holiday if England win this weekend’s Women’s Euro 2025 final and successfully defend the trophy they won in 2022.

England Women have reached their third consecutive major final following their dramatic 2-1 victory over Italy in the semi-finals of Euro 2025.

Just as it was against Sweden, the Lionesses left it late, with Michelle Agyemang’s 96th-minute equaliser taking the game to extra-time.

Chloe Kelly then scored the match-winner in the 119th minute when she scored on the rebound from her own penalty.

The Lionesses are looking to become back-to-back champions after beating Germany to win the tournament at Wembley Stadium three years ago.

How to sign the petition for a bank holiday if England win Euro 2025?

Given how much it would mean for the country if England win Women’s Euro 2025, SheKicks is urging the Prime Minister and UK government to declare a bank holiday if England are crowned European Champions.

SheKicks readers can sign the petition to help make this a reality on the Change.Org website.

Why are we launching a petition for a bank holiday if England win Euro 2025?

Sarina Wiegman’s side has shown remarkable skill, determination and will to overcome adversity after two hard-fought victories over Sweden and Italy to make the final.

A victory in the final of Euro 2025 would mark a historic moment for English football and represents a chance to celebrate the talent and success of women’s football in England.

Therefore, SheKicks has launched the petition to declare a bank holiday on Monday, July 28th, 2025, should the Lionesses successfully defend their European Championship trophy.

Not only would it honour the achievement of our women’s national team but also provide an opportunity for communities across the UK to come together and celebrate.

What has Sir Keir Starmer said about a bank holiday?

Downing Street before the semi-final insisted that there are no plans currently for there to be a bank holiday if England win the tournament.

However, Sir Keir Starmer, before becoming Prime Minister, backed calls for a celebratory bank holiday if England won Euro 2022 and the 2023 World Cup.

He tweeted before the 2023 World Cup final defeat to Spain: “It’s almost 60 years since England won the World Cup.

“I’m never complacent about anything… but there should be a celebratory bank holiday if the Lionesses bring it home.”

Starmer also hinted at a bank holiday if England won the men’s European Championship last summer.
