Sheffield United Women have added three more players to their squad – all of whom have Women’s Super League experience.

Carla Ward’s roster for the inaugural campaign in the FA Women’s Championship is coming together following the captures of Nic Hobbs, Nik Kemp and Ellie Gilliatt.

Blades boss Ward commented: “It’s been a busy and exciting week and I’m obviously delighted to get what we feel are quality signings over the line. It brings a huge amount of leadership and experience and that’s key with what we’re trying to build. The girls have been in with us for the past week and have settled straight away.”

Hobbs, who signs from London Bees, is hugely experienced having previously been with Doncaster Rovers Belles. She said: “United was an obvious choice for me. I like that from the off the club has been driven and motivated with their plans and want the players fully involved in the progress of that.”

Kemp came through United’s Regional Talent Club before moving to Sheffield FC at the age of 16. She played nearly 80 per cent of the Dronfield club’s WSL fixtures last season and added: “I think it is great how focused United are when it comes to developing players. I’m excited to grow at the club and push myself further as a player. I’m really excited to get started with the girls out on the field.”

Gilliatt signs from Sheffield FC also and is a huge signing considering she had offers from four WSL1 clubs and a number of Championship clubs. She is described as one of the most exciting players in the division.

She commented: “This was an easy decision for me, The set up is so very professional. United have a realistic goal that has been set, some great players in the squad with WSL pedigree. Obviously playing alongside Wardy for seven seasons was a big factor as knowing what she demands.”
