Sheffield United have signed experienced forward Jess Sigsworth from Leicester City ahead of the 2023/24 Barclays Women’s Championship season.
Sigsworth joins off the back of two seasons with the Foxes and previously spent three years with Manchester United, where she was the top scorer in the Championship as Casey Stoney’s side earned promotion to the top division in 2019.
The 28-year-old was also top scorer in the league for Doncaster Rovers Belles the year before and represented both the Belles and Notts County in the Women’s Super League.
A former Blades academy player, Sigsworth spent three years in the United youth system between 2008 and 2011 before embarking on her professional career.
Speaking about returning to the club and the city of Sheffield, Sigsworth said: “I’m extremely happy to be back at Sheffield United. This is where it all started for me, so I’m extremely grateful that Jonathan [Morgan] has brought me back to the club and I’m so excited to get back going.”
Head coach Jonathan Morgan said: “For me, with Siggy it was a really important signing for us to make. It shows everyone what we are
about and we can start to attract some of the top players out there.
“I’ve worked with Siggy before and what she showed me is she’s very professional, very switched on and she gives her everything for the team. When she’s on the pitch, it’s very infectious and I’m excited to have her.”
