As the 2016 European Championships in France enters its final week, Kick It Out are calling on all supporters to Klick It Out and challenge online discrimination.
Since the launch of the campaign in May, football’s equality and inclusion organisation have raised awareness of the volume of football-related discrimination on social media.
Research during the European Championships, conducted in partnership with Brandwatch, a world leading social intelligence and analytics company, has revealed over 15,000 messages of a discriminatory nature have been posted during the tournament relating to players and managers.
Now with just a week remaining of the campaign, Kick It Out is urging all football fans to support ‘Klick It Out’ across all social media platforms.
Supporters can include the #KlickItOut hashtag when talking about the campaign and can also show their backing by sharing their ‘we need #KlickItOut’ message on social media.
The WSL has shown its support so far through dedicated fixtures, with Manchester City and London Bees both holding fixtures to support the organisation.
Roisin Wood, Director of Kick It Out, said: “We want this campaign to illustrate the level of discrimination that still occurs on social media that is a stain on football.
“At Kick It Out we don’t have the power to change laws but we hope our campaign shows how serious the problem is and the devastating impact it can have on people. This problem needs to be addressed now.”
