Helped the ‘Green Army’ from Nuneaton become Birmingham League champions this year and gain promotion to the West Midlands League.
Name: Vicky Norman
Age (DOB): 25 – 28/08/1989
Team: Stockingford A A Pavilion Ladies FC
Position (and have you always played there)? Centre Midfield. I started playing for a team when I was five years old and was a defender for a number of years. I had a four-year stint in goal as a teenager but then found comfort in the centre-mid position.
Team Supporter / Fave player? I love football, so some people find it hard to understand when I say I don’t support a team! I love to play and I don’t mind watching games, but don’t follow anyone in particular.
Occupation / or what are you studying? I’m a Funding Executive for Oaks Consultancy, providing support to not-for-profit organisations to assist them to generate income through a range of grant funding sources – it’s more fun than it sounds – honestly!
Are there other footballers in your family? My dad used to play, but he has hung up his boots in exchange for a managerial role.
Favourite game played in by you (and why)? Without a doubt this season playing Sandwell at home. In previous seasons, playing for past teams it has always been a difficult fixture. It was a turning point in our season this year; everyone came off that pitch knowing that we had given it our all and the score nicely reflected that! I also scored a decent goal, which always helps
Your best attribute as a player? Well I don’t think my teammates would let me get away with saying heading!! Honest answer would be passing – pretty accurate and quite a few assists this season.
What are your ambitions in football? I absolutely love the Green Army and can’t see myself with a different team. After promotion this season, I hope to be a part of our future success and to establish ourselves in the higher divisions. We are currently a one team club, but I will continue to be involved behind the scenes in an attempt to attract even more local females to become involved in football.
Who has been the biggest influence in your footballing career? Without a doubt my Dad. Even at the age of 25 I am privileged to have his support at every game – providing advice and guidance along the way!
What is the best thing about playing for your team? Definitely the people. The best group of people in my life. Playing alongside such great friends makes football even more enjoyable!
If you got to design your team’s kit, what would it look like? Well it would definitely be a green shirt (have to stick to our Green Army roots!) and then maybe green/black hooped socks and black shorts.
Do you listen to music to get you motivated, or while you train – if so, what tracks? This season each player has taken it in turns to pick a couple of songs for our pre-game build up, over the season this has created our inspirational play list. My choice was ‘Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger’ by Daft Punk – simple lyrics but a good tune to get you up for a big game!
Who, that plays for your team, should we know more about and why? Rach Crawley, or “Pockets” as we know her, she is one of the youngest players in our team – started out so quiet and innocent – oh how things have changed…
