Hopes to ditch her own-goal scoring habit, particularly with her side next to bottom in the Derbyshire League Division 1.
1. Name: Sharne Lawton
2. Age: 21
3. Team: Hasland Ladies FC
4. Position (and have you always played there)?: Central defender, but used to play as a winger.
5. Team supporter/favourite player: Manchester United since I was born and my favourite player is Ryan Giggs
6. Occupation/or what you are studying?: I work at Thompson chip shop in Buxton, Derbyshire. Have since I finished school.
7. Are there other footballers in the family?: My brother use to play and my younger sister in going to start out soon
8. Favourite game you have played in (and why?): I think it was a friendly match when we played against Woodlands at Pride Park. All the players switched their positions for the game, a few defenders went upfront! It was a good experience to play at a football stadium like that and it was a bit of fun switching positions for a game. But also playing the 2010-11 Derbyshire League Cup Final against Belper Town and winning 4-1!
9. Your best attribute as a player?: I’m good at scoring own goals! I try to keep players talking during a game, also my confidence, and that I can bring the ball out of my area and play it around.
10. What are your ambitions in football? To become a professional footballer
11. Who has been the biggest influence in or on your footballing career?: My Dad influenced me to play football. In my career there hasn’t been a certain person, I just pick up different aspects from different managers that I have worked with.
12. What is the best thing about playing for your team?: Having the competition and having something to play for. Making new friends and working together as a team.
13. If you got to design your team’s kit, what would it look like?: Red and black to match my favourite team, Man Utd. Failing that, red and yellow to mix Hasland and United colours!
14. Do you listen to music to get you motivated, or while you train – if so, what tracks?: Anything as long as it has a good bass to it.
15. Who, that plays for your team, should we know more about and why?: Our captain, Becky Hill, She’s kept the team going through thick and thin. She’s one of the key players and we seem to have a lot more confidence when she’s on the field. She keeps the play flowing and keeps our heads up. I’d class her as the playmaker of the team and she has the confidence to run at players, and as a result she is our top goalscorer. She can basically play anywhere, but I think she plays better in centre midfield or upfront. She puts so much into her game and she deserves to have the captain’s armband.
