The top three all ended on the same points tally after Bishops Stortford (pictured top) ad a crucial 4-2 win at Beds & Herts Division 1 title rivals Sandy and second-placed Sherrardswood defeated Sharnbrook 1-0. Kathryn Stanley bagged a brace, Brooke White and Rosee Golding one each in Stortford’s victory that saw them take the league with a goal-difference one better than their nearest rivals and six better than Sandy’s.
Cambridge United Reserves clinched the Cambridgeshire Premiership by beating rivals Cambridge University 3-1, thereby moving otu of their reach and also that of Netherton. Lauren Gibson, Faith Hewitt and Ebony Rule were the scorers for the U’s.
Gillingham Academy went into their final games in the South East Counties League Division 1 East needing only a point to take the championship from Kent Football United, who have recently announced an amalgamation with London Corinthians. The Gills swept aside hosts Dartford 9-1 to win the division by two points.
Kidderminster Harriers (pictured above) managed two midweek victories which proved enough to win the Midwest Counties League, as their last title rivals dropped points on Sunday to fall out of the race. Anna Lock and Kirsty Roberts scored in the 2-0 defeat of Droitwich Spa Belles on Wednesday, with Roberts scoring again in Friday’s 5-0 success at Areley Kings, where Amber Ireson-Lawrence, Lily Knowles, Charlotte Lewis and Jess Price were also on target. Hereford Lads Club Ladies were left needing to beat Wyre Forest Phoenix on Sunday but a 2-2 tie meant they could no longer catch the Harriers.
North West League Division 1 South leaders, Merseyrail Bootle, were two points clear on FC United going into the final games but had an inferior goal-difference. But Bootle made short work of Liverpool City with a 7-0 result to seal promotion, with United anyway held 1-1 at third-placed Warrington Wolverines.
St Agnes AFC Ladies
A 10-0 win for St Agnes over St Breward gave the high-scoring Cornwall League leaders the title, after Bude Town had kept up the pressure with a 7-1 midweek victory at Wadebridge. Alexia Riley hit a hat-trick, Debbie Duncan and Jodie Hood a brace each, with Suzanne Hurrell, Helen Jones and Laura-Beth Medcalf adding singles.
Following a players vote and with a few retiring or moving away, St Agnes have not applied for promotion as they say the squad hasn’t enough players able to commit to the extra travel, etc, involved in the South West Regional League.
Sir Tom Finney Development were still being chased by Wigan Athletic Reserves ahead of the two sides last Lancashire League Division 2 fixtures. But while the Latics lost 1-0 at home to Nelson, Preston-based STF thrashed Blackpool Wren Rovers 8-3.
