UK searches for Lionesses football kit soared 3,981% ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup final against Spain, Google Trends data reveals.

The analysis by fashion retailer Boohoo reveals that searches for ‘Lionesses kit’ exploded by 3,981% above the average volume in the last 90 days as England prepares to go head-to-head against Spain on Sunday 20 August.

According to Google Trends, this is an increase of over 40 times compared to average volumes over the last 90 days.

Searches for ‘Lioness shirt’ and ‘England shirt’ have also seen rises of 3,617% and 2,220%, respectively, over the last 90 days.

Analysis of Google Trends data reveals the most in-demand Lioness shirts are forward Lauren Hemp, followed by captain Leah Williamson, and goalkeeper Mary Earps, following the controversy regarding her unavailable kit.

A spokesperson at Boohoo commented on the findings: “The Lionesses’ success in the World Cup has already proved historic, with the effects of the success already being felt, with searches for their kit and, subsequently, interest in sportswear as a fashion statement already peaking.”
