Scottish Women’s Football are inviting nominees for the MG ALBA annual awards from across a range of categories.
These cover all elements of the women’s and girls’ game including: SWPL1 player of the year, goal of the season, youth player of the year and volunteer of the year.
SWF also confirm that MG ALBA will again be the headline partner continuing their long-held commitment to supporting women’s football.
The event, due to be held on 4 June at Glasgow’s Hilton Hotel, will be the first in-person gathering following a near two-year gap due to Covid which saw the prestigious event held online. Hosting the event will be BBC sports journalist, Jane Dougall.
Commenting, SWF Chair Viv MacLaren said:
“We are pleased to open nominations for our annual awards ceremony and encourage clubs from right across Scotland to tell us who they think deserves recognition in our game. We want to hear about young aspiring footballers who will be the Scotland stars of the future along with the dedicated volunteers who go above and beyond to help create opportunities for girls and women to play the sport we all love. This award ceremony is an important moment to celebrate achievement and shine a spotlight on all that is good in our game. And we are delighted that, once again, we have MG ALBA as our headline partner. They have been a continued source of support and have provided much needed visibility to women’s football – this has helped to grow the game and they deserve great recognition and credit.”
Iseabail Mactaggart, Director of Multi-platform Content at MG ALBA added:
“Supporting women’s sport – and with it the profile of Gaelic – has been a long-standing priority for MG ALBA. We are proud of our track record in growing audiences and of increasing the visibility of women’s football. That is why we are pleased to support the awards ceremony which will be a great opportunity to celebrate the whole game across all ages and stages. We also know that these events can showcase some of the really wonderful stories of dedication and commitment that are the foundation of the game as well as recognising elite sporting prowess. We would encourage every club to get their nominations and make this very special gathering one to remember.”
