Scotland edged Austria 1-0 after extra-time in a FIFA Women’s World Cup Play-Off Semi-Final, watched by 10,182 at Hampden Park.

Martha Thomas was inches away from a Rachel Corsie through-ball, Caroline Weir was twice denied by Manuela Zinsberger, before Julia Hickelsberger’s shot skimmed the crossbar.

Early in the second half, Laura Feiersinger fired straight at Lee Gibson and Hickelsberger cleared the bar, as did a Fiona Brown header, while Weir shot wide from distance and extra-time was required.

The breakthrough came from an Erin Cuthbert corner, which substitute Abi Harrison headed powerfully home at the back post.
