Premiership Southampton FC may have made it into Europe but the Saints G&LFC have already been there and won a cup.
Southampton Saints G&LFC report that their U-13s have had an amazing year under new manager Dave Jenman, who took over at the beginning of the season.
They began the year winning the Winchester pre-season tournament, they then continued their winning streak throughout the campaign.
Whilst playing at U-14 level a year up than their actual age-group, they won the Winchester League, the League Cup and Hampshire FA Cup final against Portsmouth U-14s.
They didn’t stop there, they entered the ESF tournament in Bognor and won, leading them to be invited to the prestigious ESF finale at Warwick University in July, alongside sister teams the U-12s and U-16s. They managed to fit the St Francis tournament into their busy schedule, which they also won!
The cherry on top of the icing came when after much fund raising by the girls themselves, they travelled to Holland to the compete in the Venray Cup against some very tough opposition, including German side Leipzig.
Described as ‘an amazing experience for everyone involved’, Southampton played fantastic football against some tough sides with it all coming down to the final game of the tournament between Saints and Leipzig.
The atmosphere was incredible with the sides lined with all the Dutch teams, waving our pennants and cheering Saints on.
Saints won the game 2-0 to be crowned champions of the Venray Cup. The crowd erupted in celebration at the win.
