QPR LADIES can look forward to being represented in Africa after defender Jean Sseninde was called-up for the first time by Uganda ahead of the 2016 Cecafa (Council for East and Central African FAs) Women’s Football tournament.
Sseninde has been named in Uganda’s 25-player squad for the seven-team competition, which kicks-off in her home country on Sunday (11th September).
“It felt unreal when I received the call-up!” she told www.qprlfc.co.uk. “I feel honoured to be in the national team.
“I work really hard every day and all the hard work has paid off. I’m now really looking forward to the tournament and hopefully earning my first cap, which will be a dream come true.”
Following her call-up, Sseninde paid tribute to the backroom staff at QPR.
“I want to thank the coaches at QPR who have always pushed me, helped me, improved me and prepared me well to this point,” she said. “Hopefully I can build on this and perform well for both my club and country.”
The 23-year-oldis well known for her community work back home, and R’s manager Martino Chevannes is chuffed she’s now also been recognised for her efforts on the pitch.
“I’m really pleased for Jean,” he said. “It’s been a long time since we had a player playing at international level, so it’s great for both her and the club.”

Ssnenide – entering her third season with Rangers – featured in the FAWPL opener against Crystal Palace and was part of the R’s squad which travelled to Belgium during pre-season. After impressing on tour, Chevannes admits he’s pleased to see the defender be rewarded with a call-up on the international stage.
“I’ve been really impressed with her attitude,” he added.
“Jean worked really hard in pre-season and has come back this season with a new level of confidence.
“We’ll all be cheering her on from west London!”
Uganda are in Group A alongside Kenya, Burundi and Zanzibar, with the top two progressing to the semi-finals.
