Rovers Extend Lead, MK Dons Go Top

The winter freeze ravaged some fixtures today, particularly in the South West and North West but there were still several games that went ahead. Nottingham Forest made Northerm leaders Blackburn Rovers work for it but the away side extend their control at the top of the table with a 2-1 victory.
In the Southern, Charlton kept up the pressure on Spurs at the top with a comfortable win against the struggling Hammers.

Blackburn Rovers went 3 points clear of Middlesbrough with three games in hand,  Saffron Jordan playing in Jess Holbrook for the opener at Nottingham. Charlotte Broad fired Forest level via the post 6 minutes into the second half but a similar time later, Ella Toone lobbed in the winner.

Charlton moved within 2 points of the Southern leaders, scoring twice in the last minute of the first half to lead West Ham at the interval. Charley Clifford broke the deadlock and Ruby Southgate converted a penalty, with Clifford getting her second in the last quarter of an hour, in which Kit Graham and Bupe Okeowo also scored.

Lewes put 5 points between them and Swindon Town with a 3-1 victory over their ninth-placed visitors. A Rachel Palmer cross on 21 minutes forced a head own-goal and Dani Lane doubled the lead on 34 minutes after a delivery was spilled by the keeper. Steph Houston did pull a goal back in first half stoppage-time but Bex Thompson struck from then edge of the box to complete the scoring.

Both Sporting Khalsa and Wolves gained ground on Midlands leaders Loughborough Foxes with single-goal away wins. Khalsa had a good result at Radcliffe Olympic, while Wanderers took all 3 points at TNS. Jade Cross scored for Wolves, seconds after TNS had been denied by the post. Leicester City are 8 points ahesd of Loughborough Students after winning the basement battle 4-1. 

Hull City closed in on the top two in Northern Division 1 by thrashing Blackpool Wren Rovers 7-0. Emily Smith got a couple, the rest eing shared by Jo Symington, Ellice Jackman, Ellie Harding, Sophie Stamp and Rebecca Beech. Chester le Street’s 2-0 result over Brighouse put them level on points with fourth-placed Liverpool Feds. Morecambe moved seventh on goal-diference with a 3-1 scoreline over Tranmere.

MK Dons sunk Norwich City 7-0 to go top in the South East, replacing Cambridge United who have games in hand. Hannah Barrett scored twice, Charley Clarke, Samantha Gillings, Leanna Doyle, Kerry Newman and Leah Cudone one each. Enfield rose to eighth with a fine 2-1 win at Luton, while Denham defeated Lowestoft 5-2 away despite having fallen two goals behind.

The only South West fixture played saw Chichester stretch their lead to points when hitting hosts Shanklin for six. Lucie Challen bagged a brace, Molly Clark, Jess Lewry and Charley Wilson-Blakely added one each, plus there was an own-goal.
