Leicester City have named former West Ham assistant Rick Passmore as their interim head coach ahead of the new Women’s Super League season.

The news comes two days before the Foxes’ opening WSL match against Manchester United.

Passmoor will lead the Leicester City coaching staff until a permanent manager is found.

A club statement said: “Rick, an experienced and respected figure within the women’s game, arrives after a spell with West Ham United Women, where he was Assistant Head Coach. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge from a coaching career spanning two decades, including roles with Leeds United Ladies and Notts County.

“He will work alongside Tom Pressman and Ollie Colebourne within the coaching team, which he will lead on an interim basis until the process of appointing a new LCFC Women First Team Manager has been concluded.”

Rick Passmore takes Leicester interim role after sacking of Amandine Miquel

Reports first emerged earlier this week that Rick Passmore was to take over as interim manager following the sacking of Amandine Miquel by Leicester City.

Miquel led Leicester City to a 10th-place finish last season, with 20 points from 22 games.

There had been no signs that Miquel was set to lose her job just weeks before the season.

However, just 10 days before tomorrow’s opening game between Chelsea and Manchester City, the club announced that they had sacked Miquel.

Who will take over the Leicester City job on a permanent role?

Leicester City have been linked with former Liverpool manager Matt Beard.

Beard was appointed head coach of third-tier Burnley back in June, but only lasted 68 days in the role.

He decided to leave his role after he was denied permisssion to speak to Leicester about their managerial role.

It remains to be seen whether Passmore will hold the role on an interim basis until Beard becomes available.

Beard was placed on three-months gardening leave after resigning from his role at Burnley.

Burnley said they were “disappointed” with Beard’s decision, confirming that he left to “pursue other opportunities”.

Leicester start their Women’s Super League campaign on Sunday, September 7th, against Manchester United.

The Foxes are one of the favourites to be relegated from the Women’s Super League this season. However, even if they finish bottom of the league, they will face the side that finishes third in the second-tier in a playoff, due to the WSL’s expansion to 14 teams for the 2026-27 season.
