Rhyl FC say that since the Ladies side moved to the Corbett Sports Stadium, they have grown in strength with the ongoing success of the girls’ teams,
Manager Tom Jamieson confirmed that the establishment of the Development Squad for the coming season will bridge the gap, to enable a clear path for young players to follow. While the club has sides from U-8s upwards, the new squad will now allow players from the age of 16 to make an easier transition into open-age leagues.
Jamieson was also delighted in the appointment of Rhyl Girls’ Coach Rebekah Hansen to the role of Manager of the new development squad. Her partner is Rhyl FC manager Niall McGuinness and Jamieson commented that: “Niall has been a great supporter of the Rhyl Ladies and I’m sure that over the coming season the results of both sides will be the matter of interest and hopefully this rivalry will spur both teams onto success.”
Upon confirmation of the new role, Hansen told rhylfc.co.uk: “I’m looking forward to the task ahead. I feel it’s a step in the right direction – the finishing touch for our pathway for the girls coming through from U-16s.”
Rhyl are looking to build on their successful end to last season, which saw them escape the relegation places and with the addition of a third North Wales team to the Welsh Premier in Caernarfon Town, Jamieson is eagerly looking forward to the start of the new campaign.
“Pre-season training is now starting and we are looking to add depth to our squad to compliment the quality players already at the club. The addition of the Development Squad will provide depth to the club and provide a great opportunity for players to make the jump from local teams to the top league in Wales.”
