Republic of Ireland were close to victory in Sweden but a late leveller saw the hosts qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Kosovare Asllani hit the bar for Sweden as the Irish battled to stay on equal terms, while Arsenal’s Katie McCabe forced a save from Hedvig Lindahl.

But a deflected shot from McCabe following a free-kick routine gave the visitors the advantage on 43 minutes.

Everton’s Courtney Brosnan tipped a strike from Manchester City’s Filippa Angeldal onto the bar but could not prevent Asllani from scoring late on for the point Sweden required.
