Rehanne Skinner and West Ham not taking Leicester clash lightly: “It will be a tough test”

Rehanne Skinner

West Ham manager Rehanne Skinner has insisted that her club’s clash against Leicester on Sunday will be a tough test, despite the Foxes only being two places above the Hammers in bottom.

After the first seven games this season, West Ham are still yet to pick up a point in the WSL.

Despite their torrid start the Hammers are still only five points behind Leicester which makes this weekend’s game all the more important.

Even though her team is facing one of the bottom three in the league, Rehanne Skinner isn’t taking the Foxes test lightly.

“It takes time to get used to your players, getting them into a system that works for you, and you can see how he’s [Rick Passmoor] adjusting that each game. It will be a tough test.

“It’s great we’re at home to be back in front of the fans. The players have a big belief in themselves and it puts us in a positive position for the weekend.”

Leicester boss Rick Passmoor spent two years at West Ham as assistant manager before joining the Foxes at the beginning of this season.

Passmoor should bring some added insight to the game this weekend that could help his team to just a second win this season.

What West Ham need to improve on

Rehanne Skinner also spoke in her press conference about what her side needs to improve on to get their first win.

“A few seasons ago we couldn’t start games quickly, and we’ve now had those first halves where we’re really effective. Goals we’ve conceded in the first half have sometimes been against the run of play.

“We need to stick to the gameplan and deliver it for 90 minutes. We limited City to one shot on target. We’re creating those chances. When those things come together, it’s inevitable we’ll get three points.”

The Hammers haven’t been able to score in their last four games, so a quick start on Sunday would give the side plenty of encouragement going forward.
