Regional League Round-Up: Abingdon United win derby, amazing Tamworth turnaround

Women’s Regional Leagues results featured a United victory in the Abingdon derby and Tamworth coming from three down to win 4-3.

EASTERN – High fives for Wroxham

Premier –  Wroxham recorded a fifth straight win to go top, a 4-1 result at St Ives Town featuring a Grace Birchall hat-trick. Royston Town beat Colney Heath 4-1, Kings Lynn Town came away from AFC Dunstable 3-2 winners, while it ended 3-3 between Bowers & Pitsea and Bedford.

1 South – Leigh Ramblers went level on points with leaders Herts Vipers, as Kate Newton got the only goal of the game at Barking. East Bergholt United beat Billericay Town DS 6-1 and Hayley Critchell got both Hutton’s goals in a 2-2 tie at Wodson Park.

LONDON & SOUTH EAST – Ashfords acing it

Premier –  Ashford Town (Middlesex) made it four wins in a row with the 4-2 defeat of New London Lionesses. Worthing edged Fulham 2-1 but it was away wins otherwise. Dartford defeated Denham United 4-1, Dulwich Hamlet sunk Saltdean United 3-0 with three second-half goals, Aylesford had a 3-1 victory over Whyteleafe.

1 North – Dulwich Hamlet Reserves’ fourth win on the trot came 2-0 at Sport London E Benfica, Hackney and Brentford drew 2-2, Walton Casuals won 6-2 at Clapham United where Ellie Stalley struck three times and Dorking Wanderers defeated Watford DS 6-0 with Sarah Chapman hitting a hat-trick.

1 South – Ashford Ladies replaced Hastings United as leaders on goal-difference, following a Rebccca Janes’ brace in the 2-1 victory at Newhaven.

NORTH EAST – West End edge into first place

Premier – Sunderland West End’s point in a 2-2 tie at Wakefield Trinity was enough to put them top of the league. Allison Ferris and Kristen Whitfield got their goals, Neve Renwick and Danielle Biglin on target for the hosts.

NORTH WEST – Rovers sink Shrimpers

Premier – Tranmere, Cheadle Town and Merseyrail all made it back-to-back wins, Rovers running out 7-1 victors at Morecambe, Stingers taking the points 2-1 at Wigan Athletic and Merseyrail edging hosts West Didsbury & Chorlton 3-2. Other results were; AFC Darwen 2-1 Crewe Alexandra, Fleetwood Town Wrens 4-0 Mossley Hill Athletic.

1 North – Blackpool took the chance to go top by beating Accrington Stanley 6-0, Emily Cardwell scoring twice in a nine-minute second-half spell. Chorley DS got off the mark with five goals past Morecambe Reserves.

1 South – Chester bounced back from an opening day defeat to thrash Altrincham 10-0 and lead the table on goal-difference.

SOUTHERN – United win Abingdon derby

Premier – Moneyfields and Abingdon United each have two wins from two, the former sending Oxford City to a 7-0 defeat with a four-goal haul for Emma Pinner, the latter winning 3-0 away in the derby with Abingdon Town. There were 2-0 wins for Eastleigh at Wycombe Wanderers and Ascot United over Woodley United.

Division 1 – New Milton Town’s Pearl Mortimer got three goals in a 4-0 defeat of Milton United, AFC Bournemouth DS won 3-1 at Southampton Women’s Reserves despite trailing at the break, while Bournemouth Sports also scored three times in their victory at Eversley & California.

SOUTH WEST – Leading pair inseparable

Premier –  AFC St Austell and Sherborne Town share top spot, after Charlotte Whitmore claimed a treble in the Cornish side’s 6-1 success over Forest Green Rovers and Gemma Mountain got four to see the Somerset outfit put six past Marine Academy Plymouth.  Royal Wootton Bassett Town’s Libby Davies netted three in a 5-1 result against Middlezoy Rovers, Torquay United drew 2-2 with Ilminster Town.

1 North – Bristol Ladies Union won 5-2 at Weston Mendip to continue their perfect start to the season.

1 West – Helston Athletic saw off Plymouth Argyle U-23s 2-0 as Abigail Locke and Eve-Charlotte Moore hit the target in the second-half. Liverton United were 4-2 winners at Saltash United, with the help of a Helena Ruffles double.

WEST MIDLANDS – Tamworth overcome three-goal deficit

Premier – Tamworth are one of four sides on maximum points after two games but only just, having edged a seven-goal thriller at Crusaders. Sutton Coldfield Town scored three of their four goals in the last 15 minutes at Kidderminster Harriers, Lye Town came from behind to beat Redditch United 3-2 and Stourbridge got the only goal at Lichfield City through Alex Nicklin. Elsewhere, Worcester City won 2-0 at Coundon Court and Coventry Sphinx had a single-goal win over City of Stoke courtesy of Ashleigh Simms.

1 South – Solihull Sporting took advantage of playing the only game to go top with an 8-0 win at Westfields.
