Regional League Round-Up

Merseyrail Bootle regained the North West Premier top spot from Tranmere Rovers, while two other league leaders were both held 3-3 at home; by AFC Sudbury and Peterborough Northern Star.

EASTERN – Brave Sudbury halt Billericay

PREMIER – Leaders Billericay Town were held 3-3 by visitors AFC Sudbury, who had travelled with only eleven players including coach Natalie Golding and Harriet Young, who had a broken nose. Cambridge City leapfrogged Writtle into second place when beating them 2-0 away, Charlotte Gillies and Lauren Tomlinson scoring.

1 NORTH – Kings Lynn Town kept top spot with a 3-1 victory over Histon. Ipswich Wanderers were 2-0 winners in the derby with Ipswich Town Development, while Silver End United lost 2-1 at home to Cambridge United Reserves.

1 SOUTH – Little Thurrock Dynamos have won all five games now, after getting the only goal at Hutton.

EAST MIDLANDS – Star hold Leicester

PREMIER – Here also the top side were held to a 3-3 home draw, Leicester City WD pegged back by Peterborough Northern Star. Oughtibridge are a point off the leadership following their 4-1 defeat of Kettering Town, in which Codi Melia’s 1st-minute goal was added to by a Kathryn Mudge hat-trick. Arnold Town managed a second win of the season, Jodie Ellis bagging a brace and substitute Chrystal Smiley the late winner at Mansfield Town

1 NORTH – Hykeham Town hit Clifton 6-1 to hold pole position, Zoe Hopewell and Millie Seaton netting twice each. Lincoln Moorlands Railway stayed in striking distance with a 5-2 victory at Teversal, Lauren Churcher scoring three times. Jody Scott matched that as Woodlands won 5-1 over Arnold Town Development. Going one better was  Calverton MW’s Hayley Brown, who got all her side’s goals in a 4-2 defeat of Draycott Victoria. Grimsby Borough edged the mid-table match with Market Warsop 2-1.

1 SOUTH – The top two posted 6-0 wins, Oadby & Wigston Dynamo’s Chloe Quinn and Sophie Tew with braces against Loughborough Foxes Vixens, Northampton Town’s Emma Dunmore hitting a hat-trick past Corby S&L. Peterborough United are third with the only goal at Corby Town, AFC Leicester leapfrogged Thrapston Town into fifth when edging them 3-2. Desford’s 5-1 win at Cosby United brought them level on points.

LONDON & SOUTH EAST – Whyteleafe end QPR’s 100% start

PREMIER – A Laura Curtis double helped Carshalton Athletic to a 4-1 win at Eastbourne Town and to go third.

CUP GROUP A – Crawley Wasps won 3-1 at Fulham, aided by a Danielle Boyd brace.

CUP GROUP B – A couple too for Corrie Goodhew as Parkwood Rangers sent Aylesford to a 3-0 defeat, while London Kent Football United edged AFC Phoenix with the best of five goals.

GREATER LONDON PREMIER – A Chloe Sampson treble for QPR Development was insufficient, as they lost their 100% record in a 4-3 defeat to Whyteleafe, whose Danielle Johnson netted twice. The Surrey side went second as Spurs Development crashed 7-1 at home to Hackney, for whom Nat White netted three. Taiye Lawal’s two goals aided AFC Wimbledon Development in a narrow 4-3 result over lowly Colne Valley, while Regents Park Rangers and Hampstead shared six goals.

SOUTH EAST COUNTIES LEAGUE CUP 1ST ROUND – Ashford had to battle before seeing off Long Lane 5-3, bottom of the Premier Bexhill United got through 3-1 against Burgess Hill Town. Cray Valley only lost to an 87th-minute Lucy Cockerill effort for Kent Football United. Dartford were defeated 3-1 by Eastbourne Ladies, Chichester City Development won a 9-4 goalfest at Margate, Sophie Phelps with a hat-trick. Zara Roots scored half of Meridian’s six past Faversham Strike Force, Herne Bay were 5-2 winners at Oakwood while Worthing saw off Lewes Foundation 3-1.


NORTH EAST – Full steam ahead for Harrogate Railway

PREMIER – Wallsend BC’s 6-0 home loss to Durham Cestria saw the visitors go as many points clear. Alice Turner contributed twice to York City’s first points, from a 5-1 victory at home to Castleford White Rose, with RACA Tynedale having a walkover against East Yorkshire Carnegie.

NORTHERN – Leaders Boro Rangers let a 2-0 lead slip as Dionne Fleming responded with three goals for South Shields, before the hosts rescued a point with a penalty. This draw allowed Boldon CA Villa to go level on points with Rangers, having won 4-0 at York Railway Institute with all the goals from Lizzy Clarke.  Consett’s 5-1 scoreline against Prudhoe Town featured a Stephanie Curry treble, while Blyth Lions roared to an 8-0 win at Guisborough.

SOUTHERN – Harrogate Railway edged into top spot with a 6-2 success over Sheffield Wednesday, including three for Nicola Hadley. Altofts slipped to second despite a 3-2 win at Doncaster Belles. Harrogate Town are still a point behind after sinking Ossett Albion 5-0.

NORTH WEST – Bootle back on top

PREMIER – Merseyrail Bootle regained first place from Tranmere with a 4-1 win at Accrington Ladies, while Rovers slipped up 5-3 at home to Wigan Athletic. Fleetwood Town Wrens thrashed Blackburn CSC 7-2, MSB Woolton beat Sir Tom Finney with the best of seven goals and Manchester Stingers were overtaken by Stockport County after they beat them 6-1 away.

1 NORTH – Penrith’s 2-0 derby defeat of Carlisle United sent them 8 points clear, Nat Broad and Georgia Campbell with the goals. Bury hit hosts Leigh RMI for six, with Jade Bailey claiming a hat-trick and Ellie Whittle a goal after only 15 seconds. Preston North End picked up their opening win, 5-1 versus Kendal Town.

1 SOUTH – Warrington Wolverines and Liverpool Marshalls Feds Reserves ended goalless, as the sides remained fourth and third respectively.

ARGYLE SPORTS CUP 1ST ROUND – Northwich Vixens went through 3-2 after extra-time against Burscough and now host CMB in the next round, while Dynamo go to Workington Reds in the Plate.

SOUTHERN – Oxford gain ground

PREMIER – Oxford City cut Chesham United’s lead to 3 points with a 5-1 defeat of Milton Keynes City, in which Mollie Dyer scored twice. Newbury are third after a 2-1 win over Ascot United. Winchester City Flyers were 7-0 winners at Shanklin, with two apiece for Georgina Axton, Hannah Chaffey and Bethany Norman. There were five different scorers in New Milton Town’s 5-0 result with Team Solent

1 NORTH – Top of the table Barton Rovers were held for a third time, goalless at home to Wycombe Wanderers.  Benson Lionesses so nearly got off the mark but were beaten by the odd goal in seven at home by Oxford City Nomads. Three strikes from May Hamblin helped Woodley United to a 7-2 scoreline when hosting Wokingham & Emmbrook.

1 SOUTH – Warsash Wasps went level on points with leaders AFC Bournemouth, with a 2-0 victory over Eastleigh, with both goals by Nicolle Keen. Alton’s 5-2 result at Fleet Town included a couple for Megan Leebbern.

SOUTH WEST – Wootton win eight in a row

PREMIER – Marine Academy Plymouth kept a three-point advantage with a 3-1 win over Keynsham Town Development, Sam Drewery scoring twice. Sian Chapman’s double saw Torquay United beat Bishops Lydeard 2-0. Exeter City’s game with Middlezoy Rovers was abandoned at half-time due to health and safety reasons. Yeovil Town Intermediate’s mid-table meeting with Ilminster Town ended all square at 1-1, while Downend Flyers had a walkover against Charlestown.

EASTERN – Wootton Bassett Town have won all eight games now after thrashing lowly Frome Town 10-0, half the score coming from Hayley Huckin. Ruby Lowe was on target twice for second-placed Portishead in a 3-1 win at Cheltenham Civil Service. Swindon Town Development defeated their Cheltenham Town counterparts in a nine-goal thriller, netting twice late on to go third. Swindon Spitfires got a goal in each half to take the points against St Nicholas Reserves.

WESTERN – Seven wins in a row now for Plymouth Argyle Reserves, as Gabi Alphous got a couple in the narrow 3-2 win over Bideford. Bude Town went third with two second-half goals at basement side Newquay Celtic.

WEST MIDLANDS – Sutton lead perfect trio

PREMIER – Leafield Athletic and Crusaders are still neck and neck, with the former netting five past Leamington Lions and the latter narrowly seeing off Wolverhampton Sporting 3-2. Stockingford AA Pavilion ascended to third with four unanswered goals at Kingshurst Sporting, two of them from Amanda Turnbull. Coundon Court beat Worcester United 4-2 and Lye Town got all three goals at Knowle, Katie Priest on target twice.

1 NORTH – Three sides still boast 100% records, led by Sutton Coldfield Town, whose 8-0 beating of Brereton Town was their eighth straight win and included a Ruth Graham treble. Six on the trot now for Leek Town who won 2-0 versus Wyrley, while Goldenhill Wanderers did just enough for a 4-3 result at Shrewsbury Juniors. Florence secured a third point of the campaign in a 2-2 tie with Bilbrook and Tamworth hit Atherstone Rangers 6-1.

1 SOUTH – Gornal regained the leadership after a 4-1 win against Rugby Town, Rachel Letford dominant with three goals. Coventry Sphinx joined Redditch United and Solihull United 3 points behind the top side, with a 2-1 result over the latter, while Solihull Sporting and Droitwich Spa drew 1-1.
