All eight Regional Leagues up and running for 2021-22

The eight Women’s Regional Leagues are now fully underway for season 2021-22, with the majority of the 24 divisions starting last Sunday.

EASTERN – Four straight wins for Wymondham and Wroxham

Premier – Wymondham Town and Wroxham each made it four straight wins, defeating Luton Town 3-0 and hosts Bedford 3-1 respectively. Kings Lynn Town out five past St Ives Town, Bowers & Pitsea beat Royston Town 2-0, while AFC Dunstable drew 1-1 with Haringey Borough.

1 North – Needham Market’s Eleanor Rossiter scored three in a 6-2 victory at Cambridge City DS, Biggleswade United’s Charlene Moreton also netted a treble for a 5-1 result at Haverhill Rovers. Wootton Blue Cross Lionesses went down 3-0 at home to Newmarket Town, following on from a similar midweek defeat at Whittlesey Athletic.

1 South – Herts Vipers’ 6-1 success at Leigh Ramblers was their third win from three, Cheshunt hit East Bergholt United for six as  Frances Gamble clinched a hat-trick. AFC Sudbury won 2-1 at Wodson Park, while Hutton and Barking drew 2-2.

EAST MIDLANDS – Northampton narrow leaders

Premier – Northampton Town, Mansfield Town an Rotherham United all have six points from the first two games of the season which began in midweek. Sunday saw the Cobblers beat Oughtibridge 3-0, the Stags 4-2 winners over Rise Park and the Millers come away from Loughborough Students with a 4-2 result. Lincoln United ran out 10-1 winners over Woodlands, Chesterfield’s Emily Mapley-Sims netted four of their nine at Leicester City Ladies.

1 North – Natasha Leach got five goals as Arnold Eagles sent Appleby Frodingham to a 12-1 defeat, Cleethorpes Town clinched a 4-1 winning start against Sleaford Town, Nottingham Trent University also netted four times when hosting SJR Worksop. Grimsby Town got going with a 3-0 result over Notts County DS, Grimsby Borough drew 1-1 with Sherwood.

1 South – Anstey Nomads and Peterborough United Reserves are both on maximum points after two games, the Nomads latest success coming 6-0 at Coalville Town, while the Posh won 3-0 at Ilkeston Town. Leicester Road edged Nottingham Forest DS 3-2, Oadby & Wigston won 7-3 at Kettering Town, Derby County Academy dominant as Lucy Copeland scored four in a 10-1 thrashing of Thrapston Town.

LONDON & SOUTH EAST – Nearly 300 watch Dulwich

Premier – Ashford Town (Middlesex) have won all their first three games and on Sunday sunk hosts Saltdean United 5-2. Dulwich Hamlet defeated Denham United 6-0 in front of a crowd of 284, Sophie Manzi eventually getting four goals. Aylesford just got the better of Millwall Lionesses 3-2, whilst New London Lionesses had a 2-1 victory over Dartford.

1 North – There was a third win in a row for Dulwich Hamlet Reserves but after a 5-3 thriller with Hackney. Sutton United scored all six goals of the game at Clapham United, Watford DS won 3-1 over Sport London e Benfica, Brentford drew 1-1 with Dorking Wanderers, as did Victoire with Walton Casuals.

1 South – Hastings United have three wins from three following a narrow victory over AFC Acorns. Maidstone United’s match with Herne Bay was abandoned due to a serious injury, with the visitors 9-0 up and five minutes left. Newhaven beat Parkwood Rangers 2-0, Welling United’s Samantha Rowland struck three times in a 7-1 beating of Bexhill United, Ashford Ladies put away a dozen goals at Phoenix Sports.

NORTH EAST – Ossett lead after opening day

Premier – Ossett United are the initial leaders following a 6-0 win over Wallsend BC. Sunderland West End were 3-2 winners at Sheffield Wednesday, Harrogate Town beat Farsley Celtic WFC by the same scoreline. York City beat hosts Hartlepool United 4-2, an outcome repeated for Redcar Town over Wakefield Trinity.

1 North – A nine-goal thriller ended with a 5-4 victory for West Allotment Celtic at Norton & Stockton Ancients Reserves, whose Sacha Millward hit a hat-trick in vain. Blyth Town beat Bishop Auckland 5-0 with Samantha Garcia getting three of those, Spennymoor Town came through 2-1 at Chester le Street United with a Rachelle Cooley decider and Boro Rangers won 3-1 over Washington, Larissa Burkinshaw with all their three goals.

1 South – Wakefield Trinity U-23s edged Farsley Celtic JLFC 4-3, as Orlane N’Cho struck twice in the last seven minutes. York Railway Insitute steamed to a 9-1 victory at Bradford Park Avenue, while it was all square at 1-1 between Barnsley FC Ladies and Altofts.

NORTH WEST – Tranmere take initial lead

Premier – Tranmere Rovers’ 5-2 scoreline over West Didsbury & Chorlton sees them as first leaders of the new season, just ahead of Cheadle Town Stingers who beat AFC Darwen 4-2. Salford City Lionesses won 3-1 at Mossley Hill, as did Merseyrail home to Morecambe, while Crewe Alexandra tied 1-1 with Fleetwood Town Wrens.

1 North – Two double-figure wins saw Penrith thrash hosts Morecambe Reserves 12-1 and Haslingden hammer Chorley DS 12-1. More modest wins for Blackburn CSC (5-0 at Accrington) and Blackpool (4-0 at Carlisle United), 3-1 victories for Penwortham Town at Sir Tom Finney and Workington Reds over Preston North End.

1 South – Curzon Ashton pipped Chester to the points 4-3, Warrington Wolves won 4-2 at Runcorn Linnets, Alder 3-1 at Altrincham. Northwich Vixens had a 4-1 result over Mersey Valley, matched by Hindley against Didsbury.

SOUTHERN – Flying start for Winchester City

Premier – Winchester City Flyers made a flying start winning 6-1 at Woodley United, Abingdon United came out on top in the seven-goal thriller with Ascot United, despite Sarah Leonard’s treble for the visitors. Moneyfields won 3-0 at Eastleigh and there was a 2-2 tie between Oxford City and Abingdon Town as Ellie White levelled at the end of each half for the former.

Division 1 – AFC Stoneham beat Abbey Rangers 5-3, whereas eight goals were shared evenly by Bournemouth Sports and New Milton Town. Woking won 2-0 over Southampton Women’s Reserves, Milton United drew 2-2 with Eversley & California.

SOUTH WEST – Nine goals and red card in all-Cornwall clash

Premier – Torquay United took the points 4-2 at Bishops Lydeard but it turned out to be the lowest margin of victory. Sherborne Town won 5-1 at marine Academy Plymouth, St Austell 5-0 at Bideford, while Ilminster Town meted out a 13-1 defeat to Middlezoy Rovers.

1 East – Keynsham Town Reserves won 2-0 at Swindon Town DS, Warminster Town returned from Frome Town 2-1 winners.

1 North – Bristol Rovers and Frampton Rangers enjoyed 4-1 away wins at Almondsbury and Downend Flyers respectively, Bristol Ladies Union beat Weston Super Mare 3-1.

1 West – Liskeard Athletic edged Helston Athletic 5-4, with the latter having Eleanor Brewer sent off on 52 minutes. Feniton beat Liverton United 3-2 and Saltash United’s Hayley Ranachan levelled late on for a 2-2 draw against Plymouth Argyle U-23s.

WEST MIDLANDS – Eight-goal Tamworth top

Premier – Sutton Coldfield Town won by the odd goal in seven at Crusaders but Tamworth got all eight goals at home to Coventry Sphinx, Liv Woolston with four of them. Lichfield City had a 5-1 result at Redditch United, away wins also for Coundon Court (3-0 at City of Stoke) and Lye Town (2-0 at Worcester City), while Stourbridge saw off Kidderminster Harriers 2-0.

1 North – It was seven up for AFC Telford United at Darlaston Town with three by Claudia Rudd, likewise Shrewsbury Town at Walsall where the hosts replied twice but Madison Jones went one better. Shifnal Town won 6-1 over Walsall Wood, with three apiece for Jenna Boddison and Rebecca-Lee Bown. Port Vale came home from Coventry City 2-1 winners and Sandwell had to settle for a 2-2 tie at home to Wyrley, whose Rachel Cumberledge struck last.

1 South – Solihull Sporting kicked off with a 4-2 result at Rugby Borough, Knowle and Cookley Sports also winning on the road, 3-1 at Droitwich Spa – as Emily Derrer netted all three – and 3-2 at Kingfisher respectively. Sedgley & Gornal United sent Rugby Town to a 4-0 loss, Leamington Lions were 4-1 winners over Westfields.
