Mansfield Town Ladies Win Goalfest On Penalties

Highlights from the Regional League on 10th September featured a ten-goal cup tie settled on penalties, while one unfortunate player sustained a fractured leg, another a broken nose.

EASTERN

PREMIER – Billericay Town are the last side left with a 100% record, after they won 3-1 at Acle United thanks to a Paris Smith treble and Bedford dropped their first points in a 1-1 draw at AFC Dunstable. Lowestoft Town’s Hannah Waters hit a hat-trick as they edged Cambridge City in a seven-goal thriller, Writtle beat AFC Sudbury 5-2 whose keeper Harriet Young suffered a broken nose and concussion after a collision, while Royston Town went down 2-1 at home to Brentwood Town.

1 NORTH – Nadine Basson and sub Alice Collins bagged a brace each as high-scoring new leaders Wymondham Town netted seven at Silver End. There were back to back wins for Histon (4-1 at Ipswich Wanderers) and Kings Lynn (4-2 over Cambridge United Reserves).

1 SOUTH – Stevenage Reserves thrashed Hertford Town 9-0 with four goals from Hannah Marshall, while Harlow Town won 2-1 at Hoddesdon Town, with the two victors meeting this Tuesday.

EAST MIDLANDS

The League Cup commenced and two ties went to extra-time, with one of those requiring penalties. Grimsby Borough’s four-goal haul by Lisa Cromey was all in vain, as Androulle Kokkinou got a treble in a 5-5 draw with top flight Mansfield Town (pictured above), which the Stags then won on sudden-death penalties. Arnold Town Development eventually won 2-1 at Clifton as Natasha Leach got her second goal in the 116th minute.

Market Warsop came from behind to beat Oadby & Wigston Dynamo 2-1, with Brigitte Warrender getting both goals. There were hat-tricks for Jessica Driscoll as Peterborough United won 6-1 at Hykeham Town, for Holly Newman in Nettlehan’s 5-1 result at Rise Park and also for Samantha Clarke as Loughborough Foxes Vixens defeated Desford 5-2. Northampton Town banked five at Riverside, Kettering Town did one better at Teversal and Eastwood’s 8-2 win at Lincoln Moorlands Railway came after only leading 2-0 at half-time.

LONDON & SOUTH EAST

Carshalton Athletic went top after a 4-3 victory at Aylesford, where Holly Nicholls got all their goals.
There were three goals also for Natalia Mann in AFC Phoenix’s 6-1 success at Fulham and Emily Vaughan as Parkwood went one better against Watford Development.

NORTH WEST

Burnley v Blackpool (Joanne Holt)

PREMIER DIVISION – Burnley hit Blackpool for six to go top, which included three from Sarah Greenhalgh. Merseyrail Bootle have also won both games after a 3-0 beating of Blackburn CSC. Tranmere Rovers secured a first point in a 1-1 draw at Fleetwood Town, while MSB Woolton defeated CMB 4-1.

1 NORTH – Penrith ran in nine goals against Preston North End but Leigh RMI’s 8-1 result over Kendal Town has them in pole position. Bury sit second after a 2-0 victory at Bolton Wanderers Reserves, Workington Reds were 4-1 winners against Burscough Dynamo.

1 SOUTH – FC United began by thrashing City of Liverpool 17-0, Kirsty Chambers on target five times, a figure matched by Curzon Ashton’s Keeley Goodwin as they netted nine at Crewe Alexandra Development. Five-star Altrincham dismissed Northwich Vixens with four from Megan Rowley and Liverpool Feds Reserves won 3-1 over Warrington Wolverines.

NORTH EAST

Highlights of the 1st Round Cup ties included a ten-minute hat-trick for Tiffany Lyons as Castleford White Rose thrashed Malet Lambert 9-2, nine goals for Farsley Celtic as well against Harrogate Town with substitute Jordan Cheetham getting three of them, South Shields winning 3-1 at top-flight Hartlepool United after trailing at the interval and Ossett Albion also beating senior opposition in Wakefield, 2-0 after extra-time.

Some 2nd Round games were played too, Durham Cestria running riot in a 14-0 score at Guisborough, including a  16-minute treble by sub Shannon Reed. East Yorkshire Carnegie won 5-2 at Sheffield Wednesday and Altofts 4-1 at Swallownest Beighton.

SOUTHERN

PREMIER – New Milton Town lead the league after the opening day, 9-1 winners at Team Solent with Olivia Jones, Caitlin Steele and Olivia Watts sharing the spoils. Chesham United but six past Ascot United, Milton Keynes City finished 5-2 at home to Shanklin and Winchester City Flyers got four against Newbury.

1 NORTH – Wargrave’s 3-2 win at Wycombe Wanderers came courtesy of Jodie Penny’s 94th-minute effort, her second goal of the day. Oxford City Nomads and Woodley United drew the other game 1-1.

1 SOUTH – Warsash Wasps won in added time, 4-3 over Southampton WFC Reserves, Megan Fox with her second goal at the death. Eastleigh’s Samantha Hide got the late winner after Winchester City Flyers Reserves retrieved a two-goal deficit. AFC Bournemouth’s Rosie Eden got half their six goals at Alton.

SOUTH WEST

Yeovil Town Intermediate (@YeovilLadiesFC)

PREMIER DIVISION – Reigning champions Yeovil Town Intermediate won 2-1 over Bishops Lydeard, with the Glovers having Charlotte Buxton sent off and one of the visitors’ players suffering a broken leg. Middlezoy are in first place after their opening match brought a 3-0 result at Downend Flyers, Rebekah Rose got the only goal as Marine Academy Plymouth edged Torquay United. Forest Green Rovers put four past hosts Ilminster Town and Keynsham Town Development’s 3-2 beating of AEK Boco featured an Emily Plummer brace.

WESTERN DIVISION – Alphington and Plymouth Argyle Reserves have each won their first two fixtures, the former scoring three at Plympton with two by Sophie-Louise Simpson, the latter beating Bude Town 2-0 with both goals from Dani Salt. Callington came through 7-1 at Newquay Celtic, Jodie Shipton finding the net three times.

EASTERN DIVISION – Portishead are the first leaders following a 4-1 defeat of Team Mendip, while Wootton Bassett Town won 4-3 at St Nicholas Reserves and there were 2-1 away victories for Almondsbury and FC Chippenham at Cheltenham Civil Service and Frome Town respectively.

WEST MIDLANDS

Shrewsbury Town on the attack at Shrewsbury Juniors

PREMIER DIVISION – Stockingford AA Pavilion are one of four teams on maximum points from two games and lead the table after an 11-0 scoreline over Leamington Lions. The others to have begun strongly are Crusaders (8-2 winners at Coundon Court with four for Becky Sloan), Bedworth United (beat Kingshurst Sporting Club 3-1) and Leafield Athletic, who got the better of Wolverhampton Sporting 3-2 away. Elsewhere, Lye Town and Knowle shared six goals.

1 NORTH – Bilbrook beat Atherstone Rangers by the best of five goals to go top, the Shrewsbury derby saw Town ease to a 10-1 win over Juniors with a hat-trick by Charlotte Budd, while Brereton Town and Wyrley began with a 2-2 tie.

1 SOUTH – Droitwich Spa are top after two victories, the latest 9-1 against Solihull Sporting but Gornal top scored with a dozen past Coventry Development. Redditch United ran in six goals at Rugby Town, Solihull United got all three at Stourbridge and Coventry Sphinx posted a 2-1 result over Kidderminster Harriers.
