Regional League Round-Up

Three of the Regional Leagues kicked off their new campaigns on Sunday 20th August, with Billericay Town, Carshalton Athletic and Crusaders the first leaders.

Billericay had a storming start to their Eastern League Premier Division season, crushing promoted Colney Heath 12-1 with Paris Smith netting five and Lindsey Morgan four. Two former FAWPL sides met as Bedford hosted Lowestoft Town, the home team winning 7-0, including an Eden Kilbron hat-trick. AFC Sudbury ran out 5-0 winners over Royston Town, last season’s runners-up Acle United won 5-1 at AFC Dunstable with braces by Rebecca Burton and Megan Todd.

Wymondham Town lead Division 1 North after netting nine against Ipswich Town Development, three of those by Laura Wiseman. Histon hit Cambridge Unites Reserves 4-0 and Tanya McKew got two in Ipswich Wanderers 3-1 result at Silver End United. Division 1 South commences nest Sunday.

Carshalton top the London & South East League after an opening day ten-goal thrashing of Watford Development, Holly Nicholls getting half that tally herself. Charlie Myhill scored twice as Parkwood picked up a 3-2 victory at Fulham and Crawley Wasps edged AFC Phoenix 2-1. The match between Aylesford and Eastbourne Town was abandoned after 25 minutes due to an injury to the visitors’ goalkeeper, who sustained soft tissue damage.

Crusaders finished second in the West Midlands League Premier last term but are the first leaders this time, following their 3-0 result at Worcester United where Bekkie Sloan netted twice. Bedworth United and Leafield Athletic both won 3-1 at home, over Coundon Court and Lye Town respectively, while Stockingford AA Pavilion sent Knowle home beaten 2-0. Both the Northern and Southern Divisions do not play until next week.
