Reading Sign Sophie Perry

Perry was part of the Brighton side that recently earned promotion to WSL2 after beating Sporting Club Albion 4-2 in The FA Women’s Premier League Championship play-off final at Adams Park in May.

The 29-year-old full back’s former clubs also include Chelsea and Millwall Lionesses. Perry spent eight years with Chelsea competing in the WSL and reached the 2012 FA Cup Final, where she played with both Helen Ward and Kylie Davies.

The Irishwoman has represented England up to U-23 level before switching to play for Ireland in 2012. She made her debut at the Algarve Cup against Wales and has since gone on to represent Ireland in both European and World Cup qualifiers. Off the field, Perry is the head of physical education at Brighton Aldridge Community Academy (BACA).

Kelly Chambers on the signing: “Sophie is an experienced defender and has proven herself both in the WSL1 and at international level. It is another great signing for us and one that further increases the competitiveness for places within the squad, which I see as a positive. Sophie is a very professional and ambitious player who adds extra quality to our already talented squad”.

Perry said; “I want to test myself again in WSL1, the team has done really well so far this season and got some good points, so I’m hoping I can help strengthen the side and help us do well in the second half of the season”.
