NWSL newcomers Bay FC have smashed the women’s world record transfer fee to sign Zambian international Racheal Kundananji from Madrid CFF.
The 23-year-old forward joins on a four-year deal after netting 33 times in just 43 games with Madrid CFF, costing the Bay Area club the equivalent of £685,000.
The record was previously by Barcelona for the £400,000 acquisition of Keira Walsh from Manchester City, although Chelsea’s recent signing of Mayra Ramirez from Levante could surpass that figure with add-ons to the deal.
Kundananji has 18 caps for her country and ten goals, one of which came in the victory over Costa Rica at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Bay FC General Manager Lucy Rushton told bayfc.com: “We are delighted to add Racheal to our group. She is a tremendous talent with dynamic attacking qualities and an incredible physical profile who has produced for both club and country. Racheal has a composure in-front of goal and a natural ability to score with different types of finishes and from various locations. We believe she will continue to grow and develop at our club, showcasing her skillset and adding to the array of exciting attacking talent we have here.”
