After Preston North End kicked off 2016 by thrashing Nuneaton Town 13-0 to go top of the FA Premier League Northern Division, we spoke with centre-back Charlotte Farrell, who joined the club in the summer.
SK: How good was that, to start the new year with a 13-0 win and go top?
CF: I don’t think any of us expected such a convincing win. The conditions were horrific to say the least, but another excellent team performance put us to the top of the league, which is a great start to 2016.
SK: With 6 straight wins, yielding 34 goals and only 2 against, you must be delighted?
CF: More than delighted. Especially being a defender, the less we concede the happier I am. I don’t mind getting on the score sheet every now and then too.
SK: Who and / or what else has been the most pleasing aspect of the team’s form so far this season?
CF: The team underwent a lot of changes at the beginning of the season and to start with, results weren’t going quite as we would have hoped. What’s impressed me is the how we work hard for one another and pull through even if it isn’t our day. The team is full of experience, there are a lot of players who have won leagues. Also we’ve had a couple of additions mid season, Tash Flint, (although hers may be a brief spell with the team) and Gemma [Watson], that show the kind of talent this team wants to attract. This can be nothing but good for the team and the club.
SK: What football-related pressies did you get or give for Christmas and what did you really want?
CF: Unfortunately Santa didn’t bring me any! But I would have liked to have found a pair of the new Nike Tiempos under my tree, black not white.
SK: Do you prefer playing in the current rain-sodden pitches, or yearn for the traditional snowy and crisp surfaces?
CF: I think every player wants to play on pitches like Wembley. We’ve played a handful of matches on 3G at Leigh Sports Village and Accross College, so games could go ahead no matter the weather. Snow and frost always mean cut knees for me though, so I think I’d prefer the mud!
SK: What do you envisage the club can achieve in 2016?
CF: I hope and believe this team is more than capable of gaining promotion!
