With seven games still to play, West Brom welcome Leicester as they look to climb up the Northern table but City themselves would go third with a win.
It is looking an increasingly tall order to catch unbeaten Southern leaders Tottenham and third-placed Cardiff must win there to retain any remotely realistic hopes of doing so.
Portsmouth and Crystal Palace are both looking to close the gap on teams immediately above them as they go head to head.
West Ham are only three points off the bottom having played a game more, so will be out to put more distance between themselves and QPR when hosting Lewes.
Wolves have a chance to cut Loughborough Foxes’ Midlands lead to four points from one of their two games in hand, when they go to Long Eaton, whom they edged 1-0 just last week.
Fifth-placed TNS are two points better off than visitors Radcliffe Olympic but have played three many games more.
Guiseley will be right on the verge of an immediate return to the Northern if they win their Division 1 fixture at Chester le Street, having beaten the same opposition by the only goal on Sunday.
Gillingham have yet to be defeated in South East Division 1 and will take a step nearer promotion with victory at Stevenage but their hosts need the points themselves towards their safety.
Norwich have the games in hand with which to overtake Boro and they visiti Cambridge United, for whom a win would lift them to second.
Plymouth will keep plugging away in second in the South West after the loss to leaders Chichester, as they take on Southampton Saints in a double-header at their Elburton Villa home. The Saints were 3-1 winners over Basingstoke on Thursday night.
There’s also a double-header at Keynsham with the home side playing Shanklin at 1.30, followed at 3.30 by St Nicholas against Basingstoke.
Lowly Exeter hope to build on their third point of the season when entertaining Maidenhead.
