POST MATCH REACTION FROM MARK SAMPSON

England Head Coach, Mark Sampson, reflects on the Lionesses narrow 1-0 loss to World Cup winners USA at the SheBelieves Cup.

Reflecting on the game:

It’s hard isn’t it? We wanted to come out and get a result and we haven’t got it.

We have to judge ourselves on results now, so of course we will go away and reflect on the performance, look at the things that could have gone a bit better and the things that went really well and tidy up on the things that didn’t go great.

We are disappointed with the result. We wanted to come away with a win.

I thought for the majority of the game we were competing, it was a tight game and credit to America, they’re an excellent team.

If you’re bringing someone like Crystal Dunn off the bench, a player that can do something like that, then you’ve got to be a half decent team. So huge credit to them, they’re world champions for a reason.

So we’ve come to their backyard, they’ve put their best team out and made a lot of changes in the game to try and freshen it up and we were right in the game from minute one to minute 90, so we’ve just got to turn those performances into victories.

We will get there. The thing for us is that it is hard to get there. Once we get there, we will then need to push on.
