Peterborough United finished six points behind the top two in the FA Women’s National League Division 1 Midlands, while Leek Town were relegated.

The end-of-season meeting had last week been abandoned in the dying minutes – with the score at 1-1 – Leek needing the win to stay up.

Quorn FC staged the re-match, in which the Posh ran out 5-2 winners to confirm their third place and also a bottom-of-the-table finish for Leek Town.

Leek and Sheffield FC both go down, while Notts County breathe a sigh of relief as their status is secured.

Peterborough were one up at the break through an Emily Brett lob, despite having Poppie Brown sent off before the half-hour.

Gallagher got Leek level via a corner but Brett restored the advantage and then completed her hat-trick with 10 minutes to go.

Brett added her fourth of the evening before Leek had Rebecca Arnold dismissed in stoppage-time, after which Tara Kirk netted a fifth for Posh and Katie Maya replied for the visitors.
