Championship newcomers Portsmouth have signed midfielder Sophie Barker from Sheffield United on a two-year contract.

The 33-year-old, who helped Leicester City win their promotion to the WSL, is Pompey’s first summer signing,

Head coach Jay Sadler told portsmouthfc.co.uk: “Sophie is a serial winner and one of the most experienced midfielders in the league, so I’m delighted to welcome her to Portsmouth.

“She brings a wealth of quality with will complement the skillsets of the squad, and she will be a great addition to the dressing room with her pedigree, knowledge and character.

“We’ve had really positive talks over the off-season, and I know she remains as determined as ever to be successful on the pitch, and I’m excited to see that transfer across.”
