Police Pin Premier Place

Birmingham & West Midlands Police report on their second title in only four years together, after becoming the West Midlands League champions.

Birmingham & West Midlands Police were crowned West Midlands League champions on Sunday April 26th after a 1-0 away win against challengers TNS.

Needing a point in the final game to be sure of the title, Gemma Horne got the only goal via player of the match Maimee Morris with 18 minutes to go.

This season we’ve won 17 of 18 league games and drawn the other, reached the quarter-finals of the Birmingham County Cup and are in the final of League Cup, to be played on 24th May at Stone Dominoes FC, kick-off 3.30pm.

There has been a sports section within West Midlands Police since 2003 but this only became a weekly-run club in 2011, when we joined forces with Birmingham Athletic LFC, for whom many of the police girls played for anyway and we became Birmingham & West Midlands Police LFC.

We were promoted in our first season from West Midlands League Division 1 into the West Midlands Premier and finished second and third in the next couple of seasons…always competing but particularly last season struggling with player injuries and others with work commitments.

2014-15 saw the return of a couple of key players and General Manager Helen Carver and with a further couple of key quality signings, we were ready to hit the season running.

On being promoted to the FA Premier League, Helen Carver commented; “We’re absolutely raring to go, funding will be a challenge but certainly no barrier. Where there’s a will, there’s a way! Pre-season prep is already under way and we can’t wait to get stuck in!”

We are proud and privileged to represent WMP and our team ethic and dedication to that badge, as well as our ability on the pitch, made us invincible this season.
