ABOUT LAILAH:

Who inspired you to first play football? I’ve always loved playing sports in general, but football was my favourite, so I stuck to that one. I think it helped that my dad played football too.

What team do you support? Manchester United

Who is/are your favourite player(s) and why? Paul Scholes, in my opinion he’s so underrated. His ability to pick out a pass from nothing, and how he used to dictate a football game I think was incredible.

What’s been your favourite moment in football as a player? Winning the Welsh FA Cup!

What is a quote that gives you inspiration? “Never fear a man that bleeds too”– I think it’s relevant on and off the pitch; it stops you from ever fearing your opposition, so you’ll never hold back.

WHY THE USA?

What is it about the U.S. that makes it an appealing destination to pursue your football career as a student athlete? The opportunities are insane over there, college sports are on such a huge stage.

How did you first find out studying/playing in  America? Through social media.

What made USA appealing (over Wales)? Compared to Wales, in America women’s football is taken much more seriously and has a lot more support.

What is the main difference that you have seen between football in England and the USA?
The intensity, the tempo and the quality, it’s definitely a level up.

What is the one thing you miss about Wales? I’ll miss everything about Wales, it’s my home. But mostly I’ll miss my friends and family.

How did you find out about Sports Recruiting USA (SR USA)? After searching for scholarships routes I came across their website on google.

What support have Jon & Jodie given you? They’ve both been really helpful, Jon especially. I think it helps that their team is very genuine.

How important is that support? Very! I think without it players wouldn’t have as much confidence when going out to the states.

Could you have completed the process yourself? Maybe, but it wouldn’t have been easy. SRUSA have made it very easy for me through every step of the way, allowing me to concentrate on other areas in my life i.e. college, work etc.

And finally, what are your aspirations as a footballer? I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to go pro one day, but the most important thing for me is to enjoy the game for as long as I can, and hopefully inspire someone else to do something they love too.
