PEEL ON COURSE FOR MANX DOUBLE

Peel’s 3-2 win over Corinthians in the Isle of Man FA Cup Final was their first trophy for 18 years and manager Mike Corlett tells us they expect to add the League title.

SK: How nervous did the final get, what with your lead twice being cut to one?

MC: I was a little nervous but knew we could always create more chance to score and was confident we could win.

SK: What does it mean to lift your first trophy in such a long time?

MC: It really means a lot, this team hasn’t won anything for so long. We came close last year with being beaten finalists, so we knew we had it in us to go one better and we did. An amazing feeling with players who have waited over 10 years to win a final.

SK: Are you confident off adding the league title?

MC: I am, yes. We are in great form and any result will do apart from a loss of more than 2 goals. With the team we have, we should hopefully tie up the league also, which would cap off an amazing season for us.

SK: Would you say you have been competing better in the last couple of seasons or so?

MC: Definitely, I have been in charge for almost 4 seasons and each season has been a progression. Last year second in the league and cup finalists, this year we sit top and won a final and it’s been progression from day one where we were battling mid to lower table.

SK: Do many of the team get to play away from the Isle of Man much?

MC: Only really the players selected to play for the Isle of Man national side, local teams don’t get away to play much but this is something I’d like to try and do. We have teams come over and play, as last season we had Penrith do a pre-season tour and we played them.
