Formerly known as Crawley Town Girls and in only their second season in open-age football. they had had their champagne put on ice a fortnight ago when they were beaten for the first time, 1-0 at second-placed Lancing by a Billie-Jo Cobb effort.
Although Lancing had previously been the only team to take a point from Oakwood in a 3-3 tie, they had also been thrashed 8-0 by the eventual champions, so their defeat was a little unpredicted.
However, they put themselves out of reach last Sunday against Horsham, with goals from Chloe-Anne Higham, Emma Kendall, Abigail Knight, Kaitlyn Taylor and Lauren Tyler.
Oakwood, for whom Jade Page and Kendall have amassed 60 goals in a +101 goal-difference, still have more silverware to challenge for. They are back at Horsham on 26th February for the Sussex League Cup semi-final, with Worthing Town Reserves and Montpelier Villa contesting the other tie.
Meanwhile, Lancing have another crack at honours when they meet Worthing LFC in the Sussex Trophy final, being played 9th March (7.15pm ko) on their own doorstep at the Sussex County Ground, kick-off 7.15pm.
