Brighton and Hove Albion have announced the signing of midfielder Olaug Tvedten.
Head coach Dario Vidosic said in quotes shared with the media, “We’re really excited to welcome Olaug to the team. She’s a technical goalscoring midfielder with real quality, and we’re looking forward to seeing the impact she can make heading into the second half of the season.”
The 25-year-old began her career with IL Trott before signing her first professional contract with Avaldsnes IL in 2016. She was part of the team which won the Norwegian Cup in 2017, the club’s first major trophy in their history, and helped them to UEFA Women’s Champions League football.
After five years at her previous club, she moved to Valerenga in 2021, where she has since won the league title in both 2023 and 2024, as well as the Norwegian Cup in 2021 and again in 2024 and 2025.
She was the league’s top scorer in 2023 and again in 2025, scoring 52 goals across her four seasons, and was named the league’s player of the uear in 2024.
Tvedten has represented Norway at youth level and made her debut for the senior team in 2020.
Brighton start their 2026 with a trip to Aston Villa on Sunday, 11th January. They currently sit seventh in the WSL table on 14 points, with Villa one place and one point behind.
“Hopeful to land a couple”
Vidosic had hinted at some imminent arrivals earlier on Thursday in his media conference, saying: “We are hopeful to get a couple in January, so we’ll see. It can be a tough window, but we’re hopeful to land a couple, hopefully there’ll be some positive news.”
He pointed to the progress made by Brighton under-19s and academy players who had made the step up to the first-team squad, and added: “We’re unfortunate with injuries…if we can keep everyone OK and out of harm’s way, we’ll be OK, but injuries are always part and parcel, so we have to have a little bit of luck in that department, and a few more coming in will just help with that squad depth and competition at training.”
