Reading say that Jones, 24, joined the Royals in 2015 from Cardiff City Ladies and went on to help the team lift the WSL2 trophy that year.
A versatile player, Jones has played in both centre half and centre forward positions during her time at Reading, but has struggled to get regular game time throughout the club’s inaugural WSL1 season.
Statement from Nia Jones: “The time has come for me to pursue an alternative challenge away from Reading Women FC. I’ll leave with fond memories of how we achieved our team objectives in consecutive seasons, but my focus now is to further improve as a player and one thing needed to enable this is to be playing games more regularly.
“I experienced my first year as a professional here and for that I am forever grateful. My fibula is getting better everyday and I’ve been able to step up my gym work and pitch participation a lot quicker than planned. So a special thanks to Callum Repper] and our medical team for the horrible yet enjoyable programming.”
In addition to Jones, the following players have left the Royals following their contracts expiring at the end of the 2016 season: Jade Boho-Sayo, Shelly Provan, Lois Roche, Amber Stobbs, Helen Ward, Laura-May Walkley
