New Season, New Home For Spurs

The hard work has started as Tottenham Hotspur and they say they are looking to build on their best-ever season.

The players returned to pre-season training recently for five weeks of preparation ahead of kick-off in the FA Women’s Premier League South on August 16.

Friendlies have been scheduled against Gillingham, Norwich City, Stoke City and Hemel Hempstead Town ahead of the first match at their new home, Cheshunt FC’s Theobald’s Lane – a local derby friendly against an Arsenal XI on Sunday, August 9.

Spurs enjoyed a fantastic 2014-15. They finished in their highest-ever league position – fifth in the FAWPL – matched their best-ever run in the FA Women’s Cup where they were beaten in the fifth round by a Notts County team* packed full of internationals (including four players who were in the England World Cup squad – Laura Bassett, Alex Greenwood, Ellen White and Carly Telford) and reached the Ryman Cup Final.

With the women’s game buoyed further by the Lionesses’ performances and third-place finish in the World Cup, all appears rosy going into 2015-16.

“The players have all returned to training, fitness levels are good, we’ve no injuries and we’re raring to go,” said manager, Karen Hills (pictured top).

“We’ve a number of pre-season friendlies lined-up including the game against Arsenal, our first game at Cheshunt and we’re all excited about that.

“Last season was amazing for the club. The only disappointment was that we didn’t have a trophy to show for all our hard work. That would have been the icing on the cake.

“We improved throughout the season, the players responded to what we wanted to do and our final league position and the performances showed a team moving forward.

“We’ve a few things to work on and if we can do that we will have a great chance to follow up what we did last season when we start again in August.”

Glenn Weaver, former chairman of Spurs Ladies who sadly passed away earlier this year, has been nominated for the 2015 People’s Award for his work in women’s football at this year’s National FA Community Awards Ceremony taking place at Wembley Stadium.
