Netherlands receive squad boost ahead of Euro 2025 as Lineth Beerensteyn returns to training

The Netherlands have received a huge boost to their chances at Euro 2025 just days before their first game, as Lineth Beerensteyn has returned to full training.

What happened to Lineth Beerensteyn?

Lineth Beerensteyn was a major doubt to play for the Netherlands at Euro 2025 this year after picking up an injury in her penultimate league game of the season.

Beerensteyn was forced to withdraw from the Dutch squad for the Nations League earlier this summer and her absence was a notable one for Andries Jonker’s team.

After missing out on a disappointing Nations League campaign it looked as if the 28-year-old may be ruled out once again for her country at the Euros, but she was still included in the Netherlands 23-man squad just in case.

Jonker’s team was so unsure about Beerensteyn’s availability that they even took a reserve player with them to the tournament, with Shanice van de Sanden travelling as a backup in the squad should the winger be ruled out indefinitely.

Much to the relief of all Dutch fans though, Beerensteyn has been fully cleared by the medical team and she has already returned to full training just three days before the Netherlands play their first game in group D.

The Wolfsburg forward has been a sensation in Germany since making her return to the Frauen-Bundesliga at the end of 2024, scoring 17 goals in just 20 appearances on her debut campaign for the Wolves.

On the international stage Beerensteyn has remained consistent throughout her career, with 22 goals in 41 starts for her nation.

Netherlands Euro 2025 odds

Beerensteyn isn’t the only Dutch forward who has been sidelined with injury this year, with Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema also slowly making her return from injury.

Despite their injury concerns at the tournament, the Netherlands are still a powerful force in women’s football and they are fancied to challenge strongly in what has been dubbed as the ‘group of death’ this year.

Along with Wales in group D, the Dutch have also been drawn against the reigning European champions in England and a rejuvenated France side that could pull off some major shocks in 2025.

The Netherlands are 20/1 to win Euro 2025 according to the best UK football betting sites.
