NETH 0-1 ENG: Post Match Reaction

How did Jodie Taylor feel about her goal and being back in the England frame after a tough year?

It was wonderful to see Jodie Taylor back on the field in an England shirt again and doing what Jodie does best! As her manager, Mark Sampson said: “It’s great to have her back. There aren’t many better no.9s on the planet.” So we asked her how she felt to be back.

Here’s a short snippet of her post match reaction…

England goalscorer Jodie Taylor on how it feels to be back:

It is absolutely great to be back. Obviously, it has been a long year. The priority in this camp, for me, was just to get back in the team and back training, just back into England mode because it’s been a while. So, really pleased to get on, I wasn’t expecting it at all. And to score and help us win was pretty cool, pretty good way to finish off the year.

On her goal:

As soon as I saw Jordan [Nobbs] knock it past the player and she had space, I just spun and got in behind, it was a great ball from her, she it hit early otherwise I would probably have been offside. As soon the ball came I let it run across my body, saw the goalie off her line, recognised she’s a bit shorter than Sari, so I knew exactly that I was going to try and lob her.

Honestly, I thought it was going wide. One of those bending round ones, and I was thinking ‘sneak in, sneak in’, it hit the post and went in.

On scoring comebacks (two goals for Arsenal and again v Netherlands):

Pretty good odds isn’t it? Hopefully I can keep that going in 2017, that’ll be alright. Again, I’m just fortnate that I’ve had really good service. The two goals for Arsenal, it was on a plate for me I couldn’t really miss. Today, the ball was on a plate for me, the keeper flew out and I couldn’t really miss.

On how much it means after all of the injuries and difficulties over past year or so:

I think it shows hard work pays off. I keep saying it’s been a tough year but I’ve worked my arse off for it, so again just pleased to be involved in this trip. It could have been a case of just waiting for the New Year but it was really important for me to get with the team, kind of get it under my belt, so i can just come in normal in January, rather than it being about injury and being asked ‘how are you?’, getting familiarised with the envoironment. So, all in all it’s been really positive and I’m just ready for January now.
