Just over eight months from the opening match, the momentum is building on the road to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015.
As part of a 10-day, six-city tour that started earlier this week, both FIFA and the National Organising Committee for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ will take the opportunity to visit all six host cities for next year’s competition that kicks off 6 June 2015.
This is the latest set of FIFA site visits, also the first since the successful hosting of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2014 in August. The latest tour goes from Ottawa to Moncton to Montréal and continues west to Winnipeg, Edmonton and Vancouver.
“We have to thank everyone for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2014, from the cities and provinces to the spectators and volunteers who worked very hard,” said Tatjana Haenni, FIFA Deputy Director of the Competitions Division and Head of Women’s Competitions. “We now look forward to hosting a fantastic FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2015™.”
The tour also had a stop at the National Museum of History in Canada’s National Capital Region, site for the Official Draw on 6 December. The draw will bring together representatives from all 24 finalists, a group that will be confirmed in late November with the completion of FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ Qualifiers.
Next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup™ will be the biggest to date in more ways than one. From a record 129 competing nations, the Canada 2015 competition will be the first to feature 24 finalists and a 52 matches. It is also the first time a 24-team finals has been played over 30 days, making it the second-longest finals competition behind the men’s FIFA World Cup.
For the host nation, it marks the first time a competition has been played simultaneously from coast to coast across the country. With tickets sales off to a good start through FIFA.com, organisers are confident that the competition will attract a record-crowd of 1.5-million spectators to the 52 matches.
With the six host cities spread across the country, all Canadians have the opportunity to be a part of the competition. Canadians are also preparing to welcome the world, whether it is visitors to the country next June and July or the worldwide television audience of more than half a billion viewers that will watch the matches.
Tickets to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ are on sale now via FIFA.com/Canada2015.
