Middlesbrough FC Ladies – the season so far

Martin Goodall reports on Middlesbrough FC Ladies’ 2013-14 campaign in the Northern Combination thus far.

Stockport County (who Boro beat twice in recent weeks) sit on top of the pile with 25 points but now only goal-difference better off than second placed Chorley, who have a game in hand.

At the wrong end of the table, Wakefield are enduring a dreadful start to the season having lost all of their twelve fixtures.

After a patchy start, MFC Ladies seem to have hit form and have climbed up into fifth place after six consecutive victories, so still with promotion ambitions. Nicola Duckling bagged a brace against Mossley Hill on Sunday, as Boro came from behind at the break to win 2-1.

They are in FA Women’s Cup 1st Round action on Sunday, away to North East League Division 1 North leaders Tynedale.

Boro’s top scorer is still Danielle Scarr with eight goals, Nicola Duckling and midfielder Emily Scott have four, Kenzie Parkes shares third place with Sarah Manning on two. With the girls playing so well and scoring goals, they’re just a good run of results from a real title challenge.

Middlesbrough’s second win over league leaders Stockport County in October, saw the side sporting the logo of their new main sponsor, Wells Solutions Ltd, on their shirts.

The remainder of the season is looking bright for a talented bunch of young girls, who are passionate about football and their local area.
