Meet Cardiff Met's UWCL Opponents

Cardiff Met – who are competing in the European competition for the fourth successive season – have been drawn against ZFK Spartak of Serbia, Bulgarian side NSA Sofia and Icelandic outfit Breidablik.

ZFK Spartak (Serbia)

Based in the city of Subotica, Serbian side ZFK Spartak are the most experienced side in Group 3.

They have won the Serbian national title six years in successive from 2011 to 2016, as well as the past five Serbian Cup titles.

With four current Serbian internationals in their ranks, ZFK Spartak are no strangers to European competition having made it to the last 32 of the Champions League in three out of the past four seasons.

Last season they were beaten by Wolfsburg in the last 32, with the German side going to reach the final where they lost on penalties to Lyon.

NSA Sofia (Bulgaria)

NSA Sofia have won the Bulgarian National League every year since 2005 and also have 12 cups to their name.

With nine players in the Bulgarian squad, NSA are a strong outfit and are sure to provide a stern test.

However, they are yet to make it past the qualifying round of the Champions League in each of the past seven seasons.

Breidablik (Iceland)

Breidablik have won their domestic league for the past two seasons and are considered one of the powerhouses of Icelandic women’s football, winning the league title on 17 occasions overall.

They have not been in Europe since 2010-11 where they reached the last 32 of the Champions League before being beaten by French side FC Juvisy.

However, Breidablik did reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup in 2007 where they lost to Arsenal.

The matches will be played at Cardiff Met, Cyncoed and Barry Town United FC between 23–28 August, with the group winners advancing to join the 23 teams given byes to the round of 32.
