Manchester City head coach Andree Jeglertz has provided an update on Mary Fowler as she closes in on a return to action.
Fowler has not featured for City since rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in an FA Cup clash with Manchester United last April.
Jeglertz has provided an update on Fowler ahead of the club’s FA Cup clash with Bournemouth.
Mary Fowler injury update
Speaking to the media, Jeglertz said: “Mary has been with us for a couple of sessions now. A little modified, but she’s training well with the team. She’s on her way.
“She’s been working hard for a long time and the last step is the difficult one where she wants to push and we want to push but the performance team need to make sure we do it in a good way.
“She’s not ready yet, but hopefully pretty soon and not that far away.”
Fowler is hopeful of returning for the Asian Cup, which takes place in Australia in March.
She told Nine Wide World of Sports last month: “I’d love to be back in time for the Asian Cup, and it is something I’m working towards, but I’m also not putting the pressure of a timeline on my body because I don’t want to rush anything.”
Meanwhile, Jeglertz also provided an injury update on Sydney Lohmann during his press conference.
He said: “Sydney has been on the pitch a couple days now and is in a good place.
“She wants to be back as soon as possible. She’s been modified and not in team training but hopefully next week.”
Jeglertz addresses signing of Sam Coffey
This weekend’s FA Cup clash comes after Manchester City signed Sam Coffey from the Portland Thorns.
The USA international has joined the WSL league leaders for a reported £650,000.
It marks a huge boost for Andree Jeglertz’s side, who hold a six-point lead over Chelsea at the top of the WSL standings.
Speaking about his new signing on Friday, Jeglertz said: “There’s something with American players which I really like. Their energy.
“[Sam Coffey] has a leadership in her, an intensity in how she’s playing and training. That is something that can help us grow. She’s a great passing player, covering a lot of ground in defending. Aggressive.
“There’s a lot of things in her that is going to fit well in our team.”
