Marc Skinner praises hard working new signing Julia Zigiotti Olme

Julia Zigiotti Olme has impressed since joining Manchester United this summer

Manchester United midfielder Julia Zigiotti Olme has made a quick start to life in England and Marc Skinner has been singing her praises this week.

The Swedish summer signing impressed for United in their WSL opener against Leicester

Manchester United were perfect almost across the board against Leicester over the weekend and it was hard to pick out one star from the squad after the 4-0 win.

Despite that, Marc Skinner has been singing the praises of Julia Zigiotti Olme this week.

“I said when we signed her, that our fans would be really impressed with her,” Skinner said. “She does all the hard work. The beauty is, every game she comes off, she goes, can I find a better space here? Can I find a better space there? She’s always talking about in possession.

“I said to her yesterday after training that sometimes it’s the reading of the game that she gives us. She makes defending look easy because you’ve already defended before we’ve lost the ball, and she controls transition.”

The midfielder has impressed since signing for United and is even up for player of the month at the club.

Olme was phenomenal in front of the United defence on Sunday and her control in midfield was a large part of why the Red Devils kept a clean sheet.

“As a coach, the most unpredictable part of the game is the transition part, and especially transition from attack to defence. So having her in there, someone that reads the game, especially with Hini [Hinata Miyazawa] as well, it’s such a nice partnership to be able to create that.

“She’s she’s been exceptional. I really look forward to seeing her growth as well with the ball, as well as without the ball.”

The 27-year-old won eight duels against Leicester before being replaced by Lisa Naalsund in the 65th minute.

United face off against Brann in the first leg of their third round Champions League qualifier this week with Olme sure to be involved again.

The Red Devils then face London City Lionesses on Sunday as they look to remain top in the WSL.
