Manchester United boss Marc Skinner has compared his captain, Maya Le Tissier, to Lucy Bronze after making her 100th club appearance over the weekend.

Le Tissier marked her milestone appearance with another convincing win for United in the WSL.

Why Maya Le Tissier is like Lucy Bronze

Manchester United won 5-1 on Le Tissier’s 100th cap for the team and the midfielder got on the scoresheet early on.

The club captain gave United a lead after just three minutes against the London City Lionesses with a penalty fired straight down the middle for her first of the season.

Marc Skinner spoke about Le Tissier after the game, comparing her to England legend Lucy Bronze.

“Maya had no idea it was her 100th appearance, I had to tell her at the end. It shows so much about what she’s like.

“Shes just an ultra competitor. At half time she was going mad, even though we were 2-0 up, because our quality on the ball wasn’t good enough. It says a lot about her – she just loves playing football.

“To be available for the amount of games she has been – I think Lucy Bronze is the same ilk of a player, there’s not many who do it. For her to be able to do it – that’s why she’s my captain.”

Le Tissier’s appearance record is made even more impressive when you consider how many games she could have played since joining United.

Since joining in 2022, the 23-year-old has been involved in 100/100 games she could have been involved in.

The United captain has started 98 of those games with just two appearances off the bench.

Despite the convincing win and United sitting top of the WSL, Marc Skinner has demanded more from his players ahead of an important week.

Le Tissier joins Manchester United centurions

Maya Le Tissier became just the seventh United player to reach 100 appearances for the club.

  1. Ella Toone – 193 caps
  2. Millie Turner – 178 caps
  3. Leah Galton – 162 caps
  4. Katie Zelem – 161 caps
  5. Mary Earps – 125 caps
  6. Hayley Ladd – 110 caps
  7. Maya Le Tissier – 100 caps

There is still a long way for Le Tissier to go before she catches up to the likes of Toone, Turner and Galton who all still play for the club.
