Although Manchester United thrashed Leicester over the weekend in their WSL opener, Marc Skinner was quick to address the club’s thin squad after the game.

United have made just three signings in the summer transfer window with the club lacking funds.

Marc Skinner addresses thin squad

Manchester United kicked off their WSL campaign with a convincing 4-0 win over Leicester on Sunday.

Although his side got the win, United boss Marc Skinner was only able to name five subs on the bench for the first game.

After the win Skinner was quick to address the lack of players at his disposal, with the club planning on recruiting in January.

“We need to do work in the winter (transfer) window, there is no doubt,” said Skinner after beating Leicester. “But in the short term, with the turnaround and the quality of players that we have, and the turnaround time of two to three weeks with all these injuries coming back, up to Christmas we should be strong.

“It is adding the right quality after that to see the season through. We were unable in the window to do the little bits we wanted to.”

It has been no secret that the Red Devils have endured a difficult summer, with lack of funds preventing the club from making any significant moves in the transfer window.

There was drama after United’s Champions League qualifier last week as well with players reportedly having to charter their own flights home from Sweden.

Manchester United new signings

United have signed just three stars since last season with Swedish duo Julia Zigiotti Olme and Fridolina Rolfo joining first.

Jess Park also made a shock move across Manchester right at the end of the transfer window in an exciting move.

Rolfo still remains sidelined for her new club with an injury preventing her from playing. Olme on the other hand was one of the stars on show against Leicester and the midfielder continues to impress at the beginning of her United career.

Manchester United will look to continue their quick start to the season on Thursday in a Champions League third round first leg against Norwegian side Brann.
