Chelsea youngster Mara Alber joins Werder Bremen on loan

Chelsea youngster Mara Alber has departed the club on loan in search of more regular game time after just over six months with the Blues.

Alber has joined Frauen-Bundesliga side Werder Bremen until the end of the season.

Mara Alber in hunt for more minutes

After joining Chelsea in the summer, Mara Alber has struggled for minutes in England.

The highly-rated German youngster signed a four year contract with the Blues but things haven’t gone to plan.

Alber is yet to feature for Chelsea in a WSL game and she has only been named on the bench twice so far this season.

When she joined from Hoffenheim in August, expectations were high for Alber.

Chelsea have struggled in the league this year however and they haven’t had the opportunities to test out younger stars in a difficult start to the season.

The only game time Chelsea’s youngster has played this season is with her international team. Alber played in three under 23 games for Germany towards the end of the year, scoring one

With such a limited amount of minutes, it comes as no surprise that the German has decided to take her talents elsewhere – at least until the end of the campaign.

Does Mara Alber have a future at Chelsea?

The 20-year-old is still very much in the mix at Chelsea. Sonia Bompastor and co. will be hoping that the experience away from England can give her a chance at a future with the club.

Werder Bremen are currently third in the German top flight but they aren’t anywhere near being in a title race.

With that being said, Alber’s new club is still a step up from her former team, Hoffenheim, who are lagging just behind in fourth.

There is still another three years on the promising talent’s contract after this season so it is hard to imagine her leaving any time soon.
