Manchester United youngster Jess Simpson has signed for Southampton on a season-long loan.
The 20-year-old is still in the early stages of her career as a professional and a move to the lower division is sure to help develop the young defender’s talents.
Who is new Southampton loanee Jess Simpson?
Jess Simpson is an academy product from Manchester United and despite being at the club for almost her whole career, the full back has only played briefly for the first team.
Most of the Southampton loanee’s experience has come away from Manchester with two separate loan spells for Bristol City women in the WSL2.
During her first loan with Bristol, Simpson suffered what could have been a career-ending injury when she was just 18-years-old.
The defender was hit with a nasty ACL injury during the 2023/24 campaign which forced her to spend almost the entire season recovering on the sidelines.
Simpson is also regarded as a top prospect for the Lionesses, having featured for various age groups in England’s youth system over the past three years.
“I just want to be the best I can, help the team as much as I can and strive for the best,” Simpson said after her move down south.
“I’ve met a couple of the girls already and just seeing the togetherness in the team is already something special, hopefully we can achieve so much together and I’m excited for what the season holds.”

Southampton enjoying a busy summer window
The Saints have been extremely busy already this summer after a disappointing league season last year and Simpson is the club’s sixth signing.
Southampton play in the WSL2 and finished eighth in the second division last season.
With the new expansion of the WSL coming up there will be more opportunity for Southampton to get promoted next year as the top two teams in the league will gain instant promotion in 2025/26.
