Record attendance at Leigh Sports Village

Manchester United have had a busy week in the past seven days but they’ve enjoyed two positive results.

The Red Devils qualified for the league phase of the Champions League on Thursday as they turned around a one goal deficit at home to beat Brann and advance to the next round.

Just three days later, United were back at Leigh Sports Village for a WSL clash against Arsenal.

A record attendance was on show at United’s home ground as the team set a new club-high for the fourth consecutive season.

United and Arsenal were 1-2 in the WSL ahead of Sunday’s game and there was nothing to separate the teams when they faced each other.

Although the game ended in a goalless draw, United will consider a point to be a great result. Arsenal are one of the WSL title favourites according to UK betting sites.

United and Arsenal remain unbeaten after the draw but Chelsea leapfrogged their rivals to top the league after their win.

Marc Skinner thanks fans

After the game, Marc Skinner thanked United fans for creating such a special atmosphere: “Thank you to the fans today, we needed you! We were tired,” he said.

“We were tired because we’ve worked so hard and I loved just walking round and hearing our fans singing: ‘We’re going on a European tour.’

“I want to keep creating history for this club and our fans, they were special for us today and hopefully we can have many more moments of quality for them.”

United will look to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign in their next game which comes against a struggling Liverpool outfit.
