Manchester City vs Brighton preview

There couldn’t have been a much tougher start to the season for Manchester City, who faced Chelsea on opening day of the WSL campaign.

The eight-time champions came out on top against City but the visitors put up a good fight and were unlucky to not take home at least a point.

City had 17 shots against the champions and if they could improve their finishing they may have caused an upset last weekend. The only goal scored by City was an own goal from Niamh Charles.

Brighton also kicked off their campaign with a stalemate at home against Aston Villa.

The Seagulls were under pressure for the majority of the game and Villa were unfortunate to not take all three points after hitting the post twice.

Brighton’s defence held strong on opening day though and a clean sheet was more than welcomed after keeping just four in total last season.

Manchester City vs Brighton team news

It is hard to imagine that either manager will make many changes to their lineups after opening day.

Both teams will be disappointed with their results however neither side played poorly against tough opponents.

City manager Andrée Jeglertz could be forced into making two changes after Alex Greenwood and Lily Murphy both suffered injury scares against Chelsea.

Brighton didn’t suffer any injuries in their first game of the season and could name an unchanged lineup.

Predicted lineups

Manchester City: Yamashita; Casparij, Rose, Prior, Ouahabi; Lohmann, Hasegawa; Miedema, Hemp, Beney, Shaw.

Brighton: Nnadozie, McLauchlan, Rule, Minami, Olislagers; Symonds, Čanković; Seike, Haley, Kirby, Agyemang.

Manchester City vs Brighton prediction

Manchester City dominate the head to head record against Brighton, having won 12 of their 14 meetings.

City completed the double over the Seagulls last season with both wins coming by one goal.

Another close affair can be expected on Friday night, but we predict that Manchester City will come out top by three goals to one.

Prediction: Manchester City 3-1 Brighton
