Man City and Man Utd into Girls’ Cup Quarter-Finals

Manchester City and Manchester United are among the FA Girls’ Youth Cup quarter-finalists after Saturday’s 2nd Round ties but the former required penalties to defeat Sunderland.

Birmingham City 1-4 Leicester City
Bristol City 2-1 West Bromwich Albion
Chelsea 2-2 Reading (Reading won 4-2 on pens)
Liverpool 3-0 Teesside Sport
Manchester City 1-1 Sunderland (Man City won 4-1 on pens)
Sheffield United 2-5 Manchester United
Southampton 4-0 Essex
Wolves 5-1 Shrewsbury Town

Just like their seniors in the previous  weekend, Reading drew 2-2 with Chelsea but there was more for the Royals’ U-16s to celebrate, as they knocked out their hosts 4-2 on penalties.

Another shoot-out was necessary after Sunderland held Manchester City to a 1-1 draw, with City profiting 4-1 on penalties.

Manchester United made the quarter-finals with a 5-2 victory at Sheffield United, where they had gone in 2-1 up at the break. Holly Davenport bagged a brace, Rebecca May, Millie Senior and Fran Stables adding one each for the visitors.

Leicester City returned from Birmingham City as 4-1 victors, with a Jessica Camwell double, plus a goal apiece from Ella Powell and Olivia Atkinson.

Bristol City eliminated West Bromwich Albion, scoring in each half to win by the odd goal in three.

Liverpool went through with three unanswered goals at home to Teesside Sport, Mel Barlow twice on target for the Reds.

Wolves ran out 5-1 winners over Shrewsbury Town, despite Sadie Craig having got a first-half goal for the visitors.

Southampton had a similar margin of victory at home to Essex, netting four times without reply.
